Set up Apple Pay and Google Pay

Prev Next

Overview

At Frisbii Media, we provide Apple Pay and Google Pay exclusively through the payment service provider Stripe. This ensures a secure, standardized, and fully managed payment experience for both merchants and customers.

This guide walks you through the complete process of enabling Apple Pay and Google Pay as payment options for your customers. The setup is split into two parts: configuration within Stripe and activation within Frisbii Media.

Configuration Area

Actions Required

Stripe: Prerequisites

Account verified + connected to Frisbii Media

Stripe: Payment Methods

Activate Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay

Stripe: Domain Registration

Register all checkout domains for Apple Pay

Frisbii: Payment Settings

Enable Credit Card for Single Items/Subscriptions

Frisbii: Checkout Component

Activate Stripe Payment Buttons in checkout

Note

Apple Pay and Google Pay are not independent payment providers. They act as secure transmission layers between the customer and Stripe, which processes the actual payment using the customer's stored credit or debit card. This means the “Cards” payment method must always be active in Stripe for either wallet to function.

Stripe Configuration

1 Account Verification & Connection

Before activating any payment methods, ensure the following two conditions are met:

  • Your Stripe account is fully created and verified (identity and business details confirmed by Stripe).

  • Your Stripe account is connected to Frisbii Media via the Frisbii Merchant Backend.

Note

If either condition is not met, complete those steps first before proceeding. Refer to the Frisbii Media documentation for instructions on connecting Stripe: Stripe Connect

2 Activate payment methods in Stripe

  1. Log in to your Stripe account.

  2. In your Stripe Dashboard, go to Settings  → Payments → Payment Methods.

You will see a list of available payment methods. Locate and activate the following three methods:

Payment Method

Purpose

Required?

Cards (Credit Cards)

The underlying payment method used by both Apple Pay and Google Pay

Yes — Mandatory

Apple Pay

Enables the Apple Pay wallet button in the checkout flow

Yes

Google Pay

Enables the Google Pay wallet button in the checkout flow

Yes

Important

Cards must be activated even if you do not intend to offer a manual card entry form. Apple Pay and Google Pay rely on the Cards method to process the underlying transaction. Without Cards enabled, neither wallet payment will function.

3 Register Domains for Apple Pay

Apple Pay requires that all domains from which the Apple Pay checkout flow can be triggered are explicitly registered and verified in Stripe. This is a security requirement enforced by Apple.

Note

Google Pay does not require domain registration. Although the Stripe Dashboard (as of April 2026) may indicate otherwise, domain registration is only mandatory for Apple Pay.

How to register your domain(s)

  1. Navigate to Settings  →  Payments → Payment Methods  →  Apple Pay  →  Configure Domains.

  2. Click on Add new domain.

  3. Enter the primary domain or subdomain where the Apple Pay checkout will appear.

    Examples: yourdomain.com or shop.yourdomain.com

  4. Click on Save.

  5. Repeat for each additional domain or subdomain used in your checkout flow.

Tip

Register both your primary domain and any subdomains that host a checkout (e.g., both yourdomain.com and shop.yourdomain.com if both are used). Stripe will handle the domain verification file automatically for registered Stripe-hosted checkouts.

Frisbii Media Configuration

With Stripe configured, you now need to activate the corresponding payment options in your Frisbii Media Merchant Backend. Two separate settings areas must be configured.

1 Enable credit card payments in financial settings

  1. Log in to your Frisbii Media account.
For testing purposes, set it up first on your STAGE account. After successful testing, you can configure it in your LIVE account - following the same procedure.

  2. Navigate to Settings  →  Financial  →  Payment Methods.

  3. Click on Edit.

  4. In the Payment transactions tab, activate credit card according to your business model.

    1. Single item: For one-time purchases or individual product sales.

    2. Subscription: For recurring billing and subscription plans.

    3. enable both if your platform supports both models.

Note

This step enables the underlying card payment capability in Frisbii Media. It must be completed before the Stripe Payment Buttons (Apple Pay/Google Pay) will appear in the checkout.

2 Activate Stripe payment button in Checkout component

  1. Navigate to Settings  →  Applications  →  Checkout.

Create a new payment component or edit an existing one.

  1. In the client, navigate to Settings Applications Checkout.

  2. In the Components Payments, create a new payments component containing Stripe Payment Buttons.

  3. Add the new payment component to an existing checkout variant.

  1. In the client, navigate to Settings Applications Checkout.

  2. In the Components Payments, edit an existing payments component and add Stripe Payment Buttons.

The component is automatically updated in the checkout variant.

Depending on the customer experience you want to offer, use the combination table below to configure the component correctly:

Full choice: wallet buttons (Apple/Google Pay) AND manual card entry. Recommended for maximum conversion.

Tip

For the best checkout conversion rate, enable both Credit Card and Stripe Payment Buttons. This gives customers the fastest option (wallet tap) as well as the familiar card entry form as a fallback — covering all user preferences and device types.

Quick Reference Checklist

Use this checklist to confirm every step has been completed before testing your checkout:

  • Stripe account created and fully verified

  • Stripe account connected to Frisbii Media via Merchant Backend

  • Cards (credit cards) payment method activated in Stripe

  • Apple Pay payment method activated in Stripe

  • Google Pay payment method activated in Stripe

  • All checkout domains registered under Apple Pay domain settings

  • Credit card payment method enabled in Settings → Financial → Payment Methods

  • Checkout component configured with Stripe Payment Buttons enabled

Test the setup

Apple Pay

Follow the steps below to test Apple Pay setup.

Step 1: Use a Supported Device and Browser

Apple Pay is only available when using:

  • Safari browser, or

  • A real Apple device (iPhone, iPad, or Mac)

Note

Apple Pay may not appear in unsupported browsers such as Chrome or Firefox.

Step 2: Set Up Apple Wallet

Make sure Apple Wallet is properly configured on your device.

Requirements:

  • A real Apple Wallet must be set up

  • At least one supported payment card must be added

Without a configured wallet and valid card, Apple Pay cannot be displayed or tested.

Step 3: Avoid Simulators

For reliable testing, use a physical Apple device whenever possible.

Important

Device simulators are often unreliable for Apple Pay testing and may not accurately reflect real payment behavior.

Step 4: Test in Stripe Test Mode

No special Apple Pay test cards are required.

Stripe automatically simulates the Apple Pay payment token while in test mode.

This means you only need:

  • A real Apple Wallet

  • A supported card added to the wallet

Stripe handles the testing process automatically in the background.

Step 5: Verify Apple Pay Appears

Once all requirements are met, Apple Pay should appear during checkout.

If Apple Pay does not appear, verify that:

  • You are using Safari or a real Apple device

  • Apple Wallet is configured correctly

  • A supported card is available

Google Pay

Follow the steps below to test the Google Pay setup.

Step 1: Use a Supported Browser or Device

Google Pay is only available if you:

  • use a supported browser, such as Google Chrome,

  • use a real Android device,

  • and in both cases have a configured Google Wallet.

Note
Google Pay may not appear in unsupported browsers or without a configured Google Wallet.

Step 2: Set Up Google Wallet

Make sure Google Wallet is properly configured on your device.

Requirements:

  • a Google account must exist,

  • a real Google Wallet must be set up,

  • at least one supported payment card must be added.

Without a configured wallet and a valid card, Google Pay cannot be displayed or tested.

Step 3: Avoid Simulators

For reliable testing, a real Android device should be used whenever possible.

Important
Device simulators and virtual testing environments are often unreliable for Google Pay testing and may not accurately reflect real payment behavior.

Step 4: Test in Stripe Test Mode

No special test cards are required for Google Pay.

Stripe automatically simulates the Google Pay payment token in test mode.

This means you only need:

  • a real Google Wallet,

  • a supported card added to the wallet.

Stripe handles the entire test process automatically in the background. The stored card will not be charged.

Step 5: Use an Android Smartphone as an Alternative Testing Method

Google Pay can also be tested directly on an Android smartphone. This reflects the actual real-world usage scenario and is often the most reliable testing method.

Process:

  • Sign in to the Android device using the desired Google account.

  • Make sure a payment card is added to Google Wallet.

  • Open the checkout page in the mobile Chrome browser.

  • Select Google Pay during checkout.

  • Confirm the payment through the Google Pay dialog.

On mobile devices as well, Stripe processes the payment entirely in test mode. The stored card will not be charged.

Step 6: Verify Google Pay Visibility

Once all requirements are met, Google Pay should appear during checkout.

If Google Pay does not appear, please check the following:

  • you are using a supported browser,

  • Google Wallet is configured correctly,

  • a supported card is available,

  • the device supports Google Pay,

  • the checkout page is accessible via HTTPS,

  • Google Pay is enabled in the Stripe payment methods settings.

Optional: Google Pay Test Card Suite

The Google Pay Test Card Suite is usually not required for a standard Stripe integration.

It can be used if Google Pay needs to be tested specifically without a real card in the Google account, or if special Google Pay API test scenarios need to be covered.

For standard Stripe testing, the following is usually sufficient:

  • a real Google Wallet,

  • a supported card,

  • Stripe test mode,

  • a supported browser or a real Android device.
