# Checkout - What does opt-in mean and what can this function do?

**1. What does opt-in mean?**

The text entered here can be used to obtain additional (optional) consent, such as a newsletter.

**2. Where do I create the text for opt-in?**

In the menu item **Settings > Applications >** **Opt-Ins** , you can enter the text that will be displayed when completing a purchase in the checkout or during registration.

**3. How is an opt-in activated?**

**With the "old" checkout:**

First, the status of the opt-in must be set to **Active** . In the menu item **Settings > Applications > Checkout** in the **Payment methods** tab, you can set to also query the opt-in during the checkout. You set this in the currently **activated** variant.

**With the "new" checkout:**

In tab **Components > Contents, Opt-In during checkout** can be activated.

In the menu item Settings > Applications > SSO in the Settings tab, the opt-in query can be activated during registration.
