# Step 2: Link your PayPal account with Frisbii Media

## Preliminary Remarks

Before PayPal appears as a payment method in the checkout, a PayPal-Frisbii Media link must be established.

> [!TIP]
> **Note**: For the Frisbii Media **stage system**, the **sandbox** account is connected. For the Frisbii Media live system, the live account is connected.

These instructions explain how to set up the Stage system. The setup in the live system differs from this only in the data from PayPal (sandbox or live environment).

## Linking a PayPal account with the Merchant Backend

**Start link**:

- Click on the **PayPal** tab.
- Click on **Edit** .

PayPal opens. The **login data** can be found in the PayPal business account in the Apps & Credentials tab in the created App.

- Enter the e-mail from the **account info** in the e-mail field.
- A new login screen will open. Enter the **password** here.

Once you have successfully logged in , you will be redirected back to the Merchant Backend. The ID of the linked *PayPal*account is now displayed here.

- Click on **Check connection** to perform the standardized test of the reference transaction of the linked PayPal account.

If the test is successful, the link is complete.

## Reference Transaction

**PayPal Reference Transactions** (also called tokenization) is a function of PayPal. The function enables merchants to debit a PayPal account with recurring payments without requiring the consent of the account holder for each debit.

- This function is **mandatory**, to realize PayPal payments with Frisbii Media.
- This function must be activated manually by PayPal customer service.
- Activation should be requested in good time, as the process can take some time.
- To request activation from PayPal , the [PayPal Support Help Center](https://www.paypal.com/de/smarthelp/contact-us) must be used.
