# Create tags

## Preliminary Remarks

**Tags** are the **basis for cross-selling, reports and up/down-selling** and can be created in the Merchant Backend. Tags can be assigned to offers to make them either the source or the target of a sales rule. The stored sales rule then controls the desired purchase options via selected source offers.

## Create and manage tag

### Create tag

- Click on **+Add tag**. A dialog box opens.
- Enter **Name***.
- Select **Category*** what the tag is to be used for.
  - **Reports**: Are required for accounting.
  - **Up/down-selling**: Two tags must be defined to create up/down-selling. One tag for a source offer and one tag for a target offer.
  - **Custom**: Is not linked to any function in the Merchant Backend. The tag can, for example be assigned to a specific offer type and queried via the API (filter function).
  - **Cross-selling**: To create cross-selling, only one tag needs to be created, which is assigned to the source offer.
- Optionally, enter a **Description**.

### Manage tag

All tags that have already been created are listed in the list view.

Each individual tag can be **deleted** or **edited**.
