Vipps MobilePay Recurring is the new version of MobilePay Subscription, built on the unified Vipps/MobilePay platform. It allows merchants to set up recurring online payments such as subscriptions or installment plans, while customers continue to use their familiar MobilePay or Vipps apps.
As of 12 March 2024, all new recurring agreements (Vipps and MobilePay) are onboarded to this new technical platform.
Key point
MobilePay Subscription (old): The legacy MobilePay solution for recurring payments.
Vipps MobilePay Recurring (new): The upgraded recurring payments solution on Vipps/MobilePay’s shared Nordic platform.
This means a unified setup across Denmark, Norway and Finland, along with improved reliability and direct account-to-account settlement.
Step 1: Go to the configuration area
In Frisbii Admin, navigate to Payment Methods.
Find the Vipps MobilePay Recurring section.
If you have no existing agreements, simply click the section.
If you already have an agreement, click the plus sign to add another.
Step 2: Create a new agreement
You’ll be asked to provide your company details:
Organization number: Enter your Danish CVR, Norwegian organization number, or Finnish business ID, without any country prefix (e.g. not
DK12345678).Country code: Enter your two-letter country code (e.g. DK, NO, FI).
Click Create to continue.
🚫 Do not include a country prefix: Write the organization number as
12345678, notDK12345678.
If a prefix is added, the application will fail.
Step 3: Complete the application in Vipps MobilePay portal
You will be redirected to the Vipps MobilePay portal. Here, you must complete the official application for your Recurring agreement. Vipps MobilePay will review and approve your application.
Step 4: Receive your Merchant Serial Number (MSN)
When your application is approved, you’ll receive a MSN (Merchant Serial Number) from Vipps MobilePay.
This number is required to link your agreement back to Frisbii.
The MSN is a unique identifier for your Vipps MobilePay agreement. Keep it safe, you’ll need it to activate your setup in Frisbii.
Step 5: Activate the agreement in Frisbii (Recurring-specific fields)
Return to the Payment Methods page.
Select Use an existing agreement.
Fill out the required fields:
Merchant serial number (MSN): Enter the MSN you received.
Merchant cancel URL: The URL used if a customer cancels their recurring agreement.
Currency: Choose the agreement currency (e.g. DKK, NOK, EUR).
Charge type:
Delayed charges (default): Charges must be created 2 days before due date and are processed on the due date.
Unscheduled charges: Can only be enabled if explicitly approved by Vipps MobilePay. Selecting this in Frisbii without approval will result in failed payments.
Click Create to finalize.
⚠️ Important: All new Vipps MobilePay Recurring agreements default to two-day delayed charges.
To use unscheduled charges, you must apply and be approved by Vipps MobilePay first.
Setup complete! ✅
Your Vipps MobilePay Recurring agreement is now active in Frisbii.
You can begin offering subscriptions and other recurring online payment flows through the MobilePay and Vipps apps.
💡 Tip: Recurring payments are processed asynchronously. Vipps MobilePay retries failed charges for up to 5 days before marking them as failed.
