Methods to renew a subscription

Axel wants to know how to renew his customers' subscriptions.
Linda shows him how to do it and also gives him details of the old way of subscription renewal.

This article explains how subscription renewal works and how certain fields influence subscription records.

Renewal by change order

Now the default method is to renew by extending the original subscription. This has the advantage of not requiring additional configuration/development to retrieve values in custom fields from a subscription on its renewed subscription. We call this subscription: the V2 subscription.

This renewal option generates a change order record, available in the associated list of your subscription.

Note: more information on the change order can be found in this article: Subscriptions - Change orders.

In the change order, the Start of Invoicing Period and End of Invoicing Period dates are conditioned by these three fields in the subscription:

  • End of Invoicing period (End date section).

  • Renewal commitment period (Renewal section).

  • Renewal commitment unit (Renewal section).

When the change order is created, the Start of invoicing period and End of invoicing period are calculated as follows:

  • Start of Invoicing period (change order) = End of Invoicing period (subscription) + 1 day.

  • End of Invoicing period (change order) = Start of Invoicing period (change order) + Renewal commitment period.

You can set Year or Month as the Renewal Commitment Unit.

The Number of renewals field indicates the number of renewal type change orders that are in Activated status.

Renewal by subscription

Until the version Winter'18, subscription renewals in Frisbii were initially handled by creating a new subscription record with subscription line items, which were all copied from the renewed subscription. Internally we refer to this method of renewal as the V1 subscription. As mentioned above, this renewal method is still used but is no longer maintained.
