Rounding and Tax

Frisbii follows the Factur-X standard (Franco-German invoicing standard) by rounding to 2 decimal places at each calculation step with multiplication or division.

Source :

Thus, the numbers displayed on a PDF are always strictly equal to those used for calculations.

Here is an example of an invoice without application of this standard:

NamePUQuantityTotal excl.%VATVATTotal incl. VAT
Product A10,04€110,04€10%1,00(≈1,004)

11,04(≈ 11,044)

Product B20,04€120,04€10%2,00(≈2,004)

22,04(≈ 22,044)

33,09(≈ 33,088)

If we just look at the decimal places including VAT, we see: 4 + 4 = 9. This is inconsistent because it does not display the total including VAT of each line with all the decimals used for the calculation.

Here is an example of an invoice with the application of this standard:

Name

PU

Quantity

Product A

Product B

20,04€

2,00

22,04

33,08

Note: VAT is calculated by multiplication, so it is rounded off and the addition of totals including VAT becomes consistent.

This rule has an unsuspected implication: some totals including VAT are unattainable.
For example the famous 99.99€ including VAT.

Here is what the French government simulator will give you, available at this address:

If we repeat the previous calculation :

Name

PU

Quantity

Total excl.

%VAT

VAT (rounded off)

Product C

83,33€

Product D

83,32€

83,32€

20%

16.66 (since rounded off to 16.664)

99,98€

By varying the unit price of the product by one cent, we reach either 100€ TTC or 99.98€ TTC.
The amount of 99.99€ TTC is therefore impossible by following this rule.
Whether at the French or European level, there is no answer concerning this problem.

The invoice-x standard mentions the following:

Possible solutions with Frisbii:

  • Use precise fields on invoice lines / invoices / accounting entries. They are calculated to 4 decimal places and you can display only 2 on the PDF. Be careful, however, as inconsistencies may occur either on the PDF or between the invoice and the accounting entry (by a few cents).

  • Sell products with achievable VAT values. For your information, with 20% VAT, 16.60% of prices incl. VAT are impossible.

  • Selling ex VAT.
