iDeal

Overview

iDEAL is the most widely used online payment method in the Netherlands and runs through your Stripe account. You first activate iDEAL in Stripe, then in the Merchant Backend, before adding it to a checkout component.

Limitations

• iDEAL is only available to customers with a Dutch bank account and is processed exclusively in EUR.

• iDEAL doesn't support manual capture or bank-initiated chargebacks.

• Refunds are possible up to 180 days after the original payment.

Before you begin

• You have an active Stripe account via Stripe Connect

• You have admin access to the Frisbii Media Merchant Backend (stage and live)

Note

We always recommend setting up and testing in the stage environment first, before doing the same in the live environment.

Step 1: Set up staging for testing

1. Log in to the stage Merchant Backend.

2. Log in to your Stripe account and make sure you open it in test mode, so the Frisbii Media stage environment is set up with the Stripe test environment first.

Step 2: Activate iDEAL in Stripe

1. Open the payment methods section in the Stripe Dashboard. Navigate to Settings → Payments.
   

2. In the Payment methods tab, enable iDEAL in the list of available payment methods.
   

When activation is successful, iDEAL appears in Stripe with the status Active.

Step 3: Activate iDEAL in the Merchant Backend

1. Open the payment methods overview in the Merchant Backend. Navigate to Settings → Financial → Payment Methods.

2. Click Edit in the action bar. On the Payment transactions tab, activate iDEAL by selecting the checkboxes to enable the payment method for your account.
   

3. Save the setting so iDEAL is listed as an available payment method in the Merchant Backend.

When activation is successful, iDEAL is shown as active in the list of payment methods.

Step 4: Activate iDEAL in the checkout editor

To display iDEAL in your checkout, add it as a payment method to a checkout component.

1. Navigate to Settings → Applications → Checkout → Components → Payment methods.

2. Edit the checkout component used in the relevant checkout variant, or create a new component.

   Note

   If you create a new component, remember to add it afterward to your active checkout variant.

3. Save the component.
   

If you created a new component, add it to the checkout variant.

Step 5: Test

1. Run a test checkout: Complete a test purchase using iDEAL as the payment method in the stage environment.
   

2. Check the payment status: Verify in both the Stripe Dashboard and the Merchant Backend that the test payment is correctly marked as successful.

   1. In Stripe, go to Transactions → Payments.

   2. In Frisbii Media Merchant Backend, go to Log Center → Transactions.

Step 6: Go live

1. Activate live mode in Stripe: Switch your Stripe account from test mode to live mode and follow Step 2.

2. Live environment in the Merchant Backend: Repeat the steps from Step 3 and Step 4 in your live environment, since settings from the stage environment aren't carried over automatically.

3. Verify a live payment: After switching, process a first real iDEAL payment to confirm the live configuration.

When the live setup is complete, customers can select iDEAL as a payment method in the live checkout.
