Add an add-on to a subscription

Overview

Add-ons let you sell extra products or services alongside a subscription's base plan — from extra user seats to storage blocks or optional services. When you add an add-on to a subscription, you choose whether it keeps the add-on's own price, automatically follows future price changes, or uses a price you set just for that subscription.

When to use add-ons

Add-ons are useful whenever a customer wants more than what their plan includes, without moving them to a different plan. Add-ons can be added for the following scenarios, for example:

Team & seat-based extras

• Extra user seats for a team that has outgrown its plan's included quota (for example, 37 additional seats)

• Additional administrator or manager licenses

Pre-declared usage blocks

• SMS or email credit bundles purchased in blocks, with bulk pricing for larger blocks

• Storage add-ons sold in GB, with better pricing at higher allocations

Optional services

• Personal training sessions added to a gym membership

• A premium support package added on top of a standard plan

How add-on pricing works

When you add an add-on to a subscription, you choose how its price behaves for that subscription:

With Custom Price, you can also choose a pricing model:

• Per unit — a single price applies to every unit.

• Per unit step — the price per unit changes across defined ranges (steps); the total is the sum of units billed at each step's price.

• Per tier — the total quantity falls into one range (tier), and that tier's price applies uniformly to all units.

• Per tier step — tiers with their own internal steps, for fine-grained price ramps within each tier.

How add-ons are billed on the invoice

Once added, an add-on appears as its own line item on the invoice, using the add-on's Name as the line description. The internal Add-on handle is never shown to the customer. Each line shows the quantity, unit price, and VAT rate applied.

• If the add-on is billed on a recurring basis, its invoice line also shows the service period (from – to) it covers.

• If the add-on uses a Per unit step, Per tier, or Per tier step pricing model, the invoice breaks the quantity down by the applicable step or tier, so the customer can see exactly how the total was calculated.

• If the add-on has a different billing frequency than the plan, it's invoiced separately on its own billing date, unless that date coincides with the plan's billing date — in which case it's included on the same invoice.

Add an add-on at subscription creation

You can add an add-on while creating a new subscription, in the Subscription options section of the subscription form.

1. Navigate to Customers → Customers, open a customer, scroll to the Subscriptions box, and click on Create Subscription.

2. Select a plan and adjust quantity or price if needed.

3. In the Subscription options section, click Add Add-On and choose the add-on to add.

4. In the Add Add-On window, choose a Pricing option

   1. Fixed Price: The subscription keeps the add-on's price as it was at the time it was added. If you later change the price in the general add-on configuration, this subscription's price stays the same.

   2. Flexible Price: The subscription's price stays linked to the general add-on configuration. If you change the price there, it automatically updates on this subscription too.

   3. or Custom Price: You define a new price just for this subscription, independent of the add-on. Changes to the general add-on configuration afterward don't affect it.

5. Click Confirm.

6. Complete the remaining sections and click Submit to create the subscription.

Add an add-on to an existing subscription

You can add an add-on to a subscription at any time from the subscription details page.

1. Navigate to Customers → Customers, open the customer, and click the relevant subscription. Alternatively, go to Subscriptions in the sidebar and open the subscription directly.

2. Click Edit, then click Add Add-On and choose the add-on to add.

3. In the Add Add-On window choose a Pricing option:

   • Fixed Price: The subscription keeps the add-on's price as it was at the time it was added. If you later change the price in the general add-on configuration, this subscription's price stays the same.

   • Flexible Price: The subscription's price stays linked to the general add-on configuration. If you change the price there, it automatically updates on this subscription too.

   • or Custom Price: You define a new price just for this subscription, independent of the add-on. Changes to the general add-on configuration afterward don't affect it.

4. Enter the Quantity - how many add-ons you want to add to the subscription.

5. Click Confirm to add the add-on to the subscription.

6. Click Submit to apply the changes.

Once submitted, the add-on appears on the subscription and is included on the next invoice according to the billing options you selected.
